The Chums

Whatever happened to Ida Lupino, the popular film star of the 1940s?  Wasn’t she married to Leslie Howard, the British actor who was killed during World War II?

L.E.P.

In the early 1950s, Miss Lupino turned to writing, directing and producing, making good, small-budget films with feminist themes, but also continued her acting career; e.g., Junior Bonner, 1972; The Devil’s Rain, 1975; The Food of the Gods, 1976.  Out of an estimated 65,500 hours of prime-time TV drama during 1950-1980, only 115 hours were directed by women, and 35 of those were directed by Miss Lupino.

The 67-year old actress was married to Louis Hayward, not Leslie Howard, from 1938 to 1945.  In 1951, she married actor Howard Duff, who co-starred with her in several films and in the TV series, Mr. Adams and Eve.
